The Problem with the $600 cookie-cutter web site:
The part of web design that is often deficient is the clear purpose of the site, and the intuitive flow of the material. The cookie-cutter jobs approach web design is backwards: It starts with selection of a layout (as though they could be designs), and then flushes this out with content you provide. Even for business card type web sites, this often fails.
The progression should be: needs --> content --> design. The cookie-cutter seller fails to address the first step, or develop the second one based on the first.
To make things worse, the cookie-cutter web-seller often adds clutter, gaudy backgrounds, and difficult-to-read fonts in an effort to make you feel that you're getting "your money's worth."
Wouldn't it be worth it to pay slightly more and get it right the first time?
